Cavern could collapse, taking part of city

This brine well collapsed near Artesia, N.M., in July 2008 and has similar characteristics to a well that could do the same in Carlsbad.A cavern that formed over three decades as oil field service companies pumped fresh water into a salt layer more than 400 feet below could collapse, taking with it part of Carlsbad, N.M.
